Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition

Mission of the Center

The mission of the Center for Brain, Consciousness and Cognition is to delineate brain functioning during higher stages of human development.
We have focused our research on practice of the Transcendental Meditation® technique because it quickly leads to the the state of Transcendental Consciousness, pure self-awareness, and with regular practice leads to higher states of consciousness. This research program has focused on:

  • Sub-stages within a Transcendental Meditation session
  • Brain patterns and subjective experience of Transcendental Consciousness, or pure self-awareness free from the processes and contents of knowing, a proposed fourth state of consciousness
  • Brain patterns and subjective experience of Cosmic Consciousness — the integration of Transcendental Consciousness with waking, dreaming and sleeping, a proposed fifth state of consciousness.

“If the purpose of higher education is to enable an individual to think and act successfully, then education is significant only when it enlivens the whole brain. Therefore, the level of integrated brain functioning is a reliable gauge of the success of a student’s educational experience.”
