IMG_20160130_141421This year MIU’s department of Physiology and Health joined the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) for its annual PremedFest in Plant City, FL, held on January 30th, 2016. This wonderful event was preceded by an inspiring talk given by keynote speaker Patch Adams, known by many for the 1998 semi-biographical film named after him which starred Robin Williams.

Featuring four different venues (the Stage of Mind, Stage of Spirit, Stage of Community and The Exchange), the different workshops and events at AMSA PremedFest 2016 educated and inspired students to engage with themselves and eachother. Covering topics such as compassion in medicine, personal branding, becoming a global citizen, integrity, and community allowed students to reflect on their roles as future healers and problem solvers within the health sector.

It was a great pleasure to have joined AMSA and its student attendees for a day of fun, laughter and learning. It’s an exciting time to be a pre-med as there are many ways to enter into a medical profession. For us here at MIU, raising awareness about integrative medicine (the bridge between modern medicine and preventativIMG_20160130_134208e medicine) is important to us as we feel that the future of medicine is in prevention, so it was really great to be able to share that with interested pre-med students. Thanks again to AMSA for hosting us and to the students that brought the whole event to life!
