Program Policies Agreement - Intern Programs

Time Commitment

Applicants to the Intern programs must make a two-year commitment to the program.

Work Placement

The preference will be to place students in academic support or administrative positions that have a component of your academic program involved in the work. English fluency and previous work experience/skills are strong considerations for placement.

Split-Shift Schedules

On special occasions, your schedule may require a split-shift. This means special scheduling by your department head and meditating early so that you are able to work during the morning or afternoon group meditation time.

Work Schedule, Compensation, and Vacations

Practicum students work 20 hours per week for each week that classes are in session for 2,5 years. There are about 4.5 hours of classes per week, which are currently scheduled for one or two weekday evenings and Saturday afternoon. There is also a minimum of 4.5 hours of homework per week.

Practicum students are also required to work during long weekends and spring and Thanksgiving breaks, continuing their 20-hour work commitment. These breaks are academic breaks that allow you to miss class but not work. During winter and summer breaks, however, practicum students work on staff full-time (6 days per week, totaling a minimum of 30.5 hours per week).

Your compensation will also include your housing and meals (and, for international students, health insurance) during the time you are working, as well as a cash stipend starting at $400 per month. However because some of your compensation is taxable, we are required to withhold a portion of your stipend to cover these taxes. (Your tax situation will be explained to you in more detail at the time of registration.)

Practicum students may take 3 weeks (18 days) of vacation per year, either during winter or summer breaks. Vacation schedules must first be cleared with your department head and the Human Resource Office.

Housing and Meals

Housing is in on-campus residence halls, and meals are served in university dining facilities. If you have children and require other living arrangements, the details must be approved by the Admissions Office before your final acceptance.

Certification

I understand and agree that my participation in this program requires that I fulfill the responsibilities of the work position to which I am assigned. If at some point I am unable to do so, I understand that the University will review the situation and I may have to withdraw from the program. My option, in this case, will be either to become a standard, full-paying student or to return home at my own expense.
