I was looking for a program in sustainable development, and a lot of the programs I found were a lot more environmental based, and that’s not so much what I was into. I wanted more of a broader understanding. I wanted philosophy, as well as green building as well as renewable energies. This was one of the few places that really gave that kind of breadth of understanding when it came to sustainability. On top of that, as I said before I was a monk for awhile and trained as a yoga instructor, so spirituality is definitely a big part of my life. So seeing that this university had that aspect as well made it a sure decision.
I’m not a vegetarian, I have had meat maybe 4 or 5 times in the last 6 months. So I don’t eat a lot of meat. I eat cheese and milk, so I’m not a vegan. I know what makes my body feel energized and I know what makes it feel sluggish, so generally I just go with what makes me feel good.
I like being outside. I like being on the farm – I live on a farm – recent projects include building a green house and working on the house. So yeah, I like building things, I like being outside – I go on a lot of walks – I like going in the woods, I like animals.
I like reading a lot. I’m reading a book right now, called A Journey of Souls – which is about hypnotherapists who regresses people into past lives and the period in between lives. I’m interested in spirituality and metaphysics from other cultures.
I’m just getting into playing piano. If I just sit down and play, it’s a great form of relaxation and concentration at the same time. Or just going on a walk around the farm.
I’m really passionate about making the world a better place, to say it broadly, I think that’s why a lot of people are here. Specifically, I’m interested in the community development side of things as well as the practical side of things – like building and getting off the grid and being sustainable.
Involved in local policy decision making, local government. Helping support local trade. Setting up local projects to promote community development.
This next block I plan on doing an internship that has to do with setting up a building that will include co-housing, food production, community space, workshop…you know that kind of thing.
In this program you will participate in the creation of an original Web-TV Series, working alongside fellow students and industry professionals. This unique opportunity is being made available to a select number of students who will work together to write, produce, edit, and distribute the series. Every student will work in different capacities throughout the course of the production.
