Study Abroad in Bhutan: May 26 - June 24, 2014
 
Bhutan Program Modules:

Adventure I — Cooperative building project. Help design and build nine bamboo and rammed earth houses high in the Himalaya in the “Last Authentic Place on Earth.” Work together with Bhutanese students on this important project.

Adventure II — Organic Agriculture: In the magnificent fertile Paro Valley in the shadow of the Himalaya, mentor and learn from local farmers and five-star hotel operators on techniques for growing organic produce utilizing indigenous and modern techniques, biodyamics and Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture.

Adventure III — Gross National Happiness Student Co-operative: Join with local Bhutanese students in a joint learning experience in sustainable technologies at their planned Gross National Happiness Center site in Wangchuk National Park. Also enjoy white water rafting and mountain treks hunting for the rare Cordyceps.

M.U.M. Bhutan Study Abroad Tentative Program Schedule for June 2014

May 26: Depart MUM Monday May 26th.  Bus to Chicago, Flight Chicago to Delhi, arrive Delhi evening May 27.

Others may meet in Delhi, all fly on May 28, 2014 to Paro from Delhi departs Delhi at 11:45 a.m May 28. Delhi Airport Hotel.

May 28-30th:  Rest, Orientation, Paro Valley, Tigers Nest Hike, Drukhil ruin.                         

May 30-June 3: Bus Paro to Trongsa, stop overnight at College of Natural Resources in Punakha, presentation on indigenous agriculture traditions, visit Punakha Dzhong.

June 1-Trongsa, Institute of Language and Culture, Workshops on Bhutanese culture, language and history.

June 3-June 10: Bus Trongsa- Bumthang: Gross National Happiness Center site, Student Co-operative Sustainable Building Project, Local homestays, Visit National Park, Dzhongs, Nunnery

June 10-12: Bus Bumthang to Thimphu via Punakha Overnight Punakha, College of Natural Resources, visit to College’s organic farm, river raft option.

June 12-18: Thimphu: Stay at Royal Institute of Management.  Gross National Happiness Seminar, Field trips to: Dochula Pass-108 Chortens, Monasteries and Dzhong, Parliament, Presentations with Ministers. Student presentations.

June 19-22: Bus Thimphu -Haa Valley via Chullela Pass. Gompas and farm visits, archery and dart lessons, journal writing, biking option.

June 23: Bus Haa-Paro. Overnight Zhiwa Ling in Paro, hot rock bath and massages, departure banquet.

June 24: Depart. Paro-Chicago via Delhi.

Pricing: $3000.00 USD program fee (MUM students are eligible for a $1000.00 travel grant) double and group occupancy excluding travel, personal, and incidental costs. Tuition for non-MUM participants is available for an additional $2000.00 for the five (5) credit course.

Cost Includes: Accommodation on Twin Sharing basis. Inclusive of all meals breakfast / lunch / dinner; All Arrival + Departure Transfers; All Sightseeing as per itinerary.

Cost Excludes: Air fare to and from Bhutan, passport and visa fees (a visa is required for US citizens), any entrance tickets at the monuments, any tips, telephone charges, any laundry, any personal nature of expenses etc.

Payment Due:  A $500 USD deposit is required by March 28, 2014. Full payment is due April 25th.
