Maharishi Vedic Science student Pont Pont Htoo

Pont Pont Htoo is from Myanmar, where she earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Computer Studies in Yangon. After graduating she taught computer science in a private computer school, then moved to Singapore where she earned a graduate diploma in system analysis from the Institute of System Science, National University of Singapore.

For four years she worked as a software engineer in Singapore, but found her life unsatisfying. Pont Pont has always been interested in psychology and philosophy, and she began searching for deeper meaning and purpose in life. During her quest she heard about MIU from a friend who had studied computer science at MIU. Upon discovering the concept of Consciousness-Based education, she realized she had found what she was looking for and applied for the master’s in Maharishi Vedic Science program.

“Maharishi Vedic Science for me is the complete knowledge,” she said. “Practicing TM and reading and studying the Vedic literature helps develop my consciousness. I never expected to study this kind of knowledge in school. At other universities the only focus is academic. It’s not complete knowledge. I want to know higher states of consciousness.”

Pont Pont also enjoys doing Maharishi Yoga Asanas and reading the Science of Being and Art of Living by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

“Pont Pont is an extremely bright student,” said Thomas Egenes, professor of Maharishi Vedic Science. “Maharishi once said that intelligent people will pick up this knowledge of consciousness. Pont Pont is one of those intelligent people who sees deeply into the value of education here. She also lives it. Joyful in every interaction, she is beloved by her fellow students and faculty alike.”

Even though Pont Pont has only been at MIU for three months, she is considering applying for a doctoral degree in Maharishi Vedic Science, as well as completing the Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course. She enjoys teaching and would like to contribute to society in a more meaningful way.
