The Baldwin Group

An MBA group from Maharishi International University finished in the upper ten percent in the Foundation Simulation offered by CAPSIM, the nation’s largest provider of business games and simulations. The top placing MIU team, the Baldwin Group, consisted of four international students: Joshua Jacob Peniel (India), Akshay Ashok Nikam (India), Ala’a Nabeel Mahmoud Kiwan (Jordan), and Humphrey Ngoh Muwah (Cameroon).

CAPSIM’s simulation evaluates team abilities to maximize growth across a set of metrics. These measures are based on Harvard’s Balanced Scorecard and include four performance indicators: financial results, customer perspectives, internal business processes, and learning and growth initiatives. Teams act as executive managers by sorting through decision-making records from the past eight years.

After each round, the teams view the results as seen in financial statements and a variety of reports.  Both strong analytical skills and informed intuition are valuable for simulation decision-making. When asked what the secret to their success was, The Baldwin Team reported that combination of good decisions about product pricing, building customer awareness, product innovation, automation of production facilities, controlled expansion of capacity, cost control, training and development of personnel, and sound financing strategies contributed to their victory.

All students who participated in the simulation expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn about executive decision-making and small group dynamics. The three other MBA teams finished at the 78th percentile or higher out of 112 MBA level teams from the USA and internationally.
