Seven MBA Accounting students from MIU recently passed the XBRL Certification exam offered by XBRL International. In March 2016, this credential was enhanced by a course in SEC Reporting with XBRL, where students got hands-on experience with conversion software that transforms financial statements and reports to XBRL, which is now required by the US Security and Exchange Commission. Business faculty member Naveed Abbasi guided the class in the SEC Reporting course.

XBRL continues to be recognized worldwide as the emerging universal technical standard for financial reporting. It is also the required standard of the International Accounting Standards Board and the US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.  In the near future, it is expected that the Internal Revenue Service will be requiring it for corporate tax returns.  At MIU, we look to structure courses that will enhance the marketability of our students in the global job marketplace.
