What is campus life like at MIU? >

One of the most unique aspects of MIU’s campus is its 100% organic, all-vegetarian dining hall. Here are a few things that make our dining hall stand out:

  1. Annapurna dining hall is the only lacto-vegetarian university dining hall in the U.S. Although other colleges offer healthy, vegetarian options, Annapurna is completely vegetarian friendly and does not serve meat, eggs, or any foods made or processed with either.
  2. Annapurna is also the only ayurvedic dining hall in the US. In fact, all food served on MIU campus is ayurvedic – even the snacks in the Argiro bookstore! To read more about Maharishi AyurVeda, visit this website.
  3. One of the best things about Annapurna, however, is that it functions as more than a university dining hall. It is also a community gathering spot, hosting families, visitors, and Fairfieldians of all ages. Annapurna is split into a larger hall, which usually houses students, and a smaller North dining hall, which is quieter and often used for visitors, staff, faculty, and the community.
  4. “Annapurna” is Sanskrit for “Full of Food.” There is a mountain named Annapurna in Nepal, although its name is usually more poetically translated as “Goddess of the Harvest.” It is the tenth tallest mountain in the world.
  5. Annapurna sources many of its foods locally – including Iowa-made Hawkeye tofu egg spread.
