MIU’s hometown of Fairfield has been called the “entrepreneurial capital of Iowa” by governor Terry Branstad.

According to the Fairfield Economic Development Association (FEDA), “a third of venture capital in the entire state has been invested in Fairfield-based companies.

In addition to Governor Branstad’s praise, Fairfield has also received two entrepreneurial awards:

  • 2003 Grassroots Rural Entrepreneurship Award for Most Entrepreneurial City in America (with a population under 10,000) by the National Association of Small Towns and Townships in conjunction with the Kaufman Foundation.
  • 2004 Most Entrepreneurial City in Iowa by Iowa State University’s Center for Community Vitality

Many of MIU’s graduates take advantage of the resources and low cost of living that Fairfield has to offer and start their own companies here. Interested in learning more about business in Fairfield? Check out FEDA’s website.
