Metafore Magazine, MUM’s literary journal, published their Winter 2018 issue on January 9th. A product of the university’s BFA in Creative and Professional Writing, the online journal is a product of months of reading, evaluating and editing submissions. This year, more than 500 total submissions were received over the two-month reading period, in fiction, non-fiction and poetry genres. Writers selected for publication ran the gamut from the first pieces published by aspiring writers to the seasoned prose and poetry of acclaimed masters. “Some evoked tears, some brought genuine delight and laughter, and all of them have the grace and beauty we seek in our publication,” said Dylene Cymraes, editor-in-chief.
In addition, Metafore profiles one alumni artist each issue. The artist featured in this most recent publication is Lennen Sanchez, with a short biography and photos of his work.
This year, the Metafore staff included: Editor-in-Chief Dylene Cymraes; Poetry editor, James Davidson; Fiction editors Bella Oates, Sam Winter and Megann Kammerman; non-fiction editors Brian Stair and Candice Rankin; and Art and Layout editor, Maggie Ventsias. Professor Leah Waller serves as faculty advisor to the publication.
Metafore will publish one more issue, in the spring of this academic year. As with most university literary journals, they accept only submissions from outside the student and faculty body, although alumni are encouraged to submit their work for consideration.
