Maharishi Vedic Science student Brock Bond

Professional baseball player Brock Bond learned the Transcendental Meditation technique to improve his game, but his curiosity about the technique soon brought him to MUM to study Maharishi Vedic Science.

A native of Saint Louis, Brock grew up playing football and baseball. He played college baseball at the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri and earned a degree in general studies with an emphasis in sports psychology and behavioral studies. In 2007 the San Francisco Giants drafted him, and he played in the minor leagues for nine years, seven of those with the Giants.

In 2014, while playing for the Baltimore Orioles, a Facebook fan from the Maharishi Purusha program named Craig Berg drew his attention to the TM technique. He found the research on the health benefits compelling, and a few months later he learned TM in Sarasota, Florida.

“Baseball is stressful; not only do you have anxiety about your performance, but about whether you are going to be sent down or sent up,” said Brock. “When I started TM, I started enjoying baseball more. I was more present and trusting that things were going to work out as long as I took care of my myself, quieted my mind, and went with the flow.”

Brock began watching videos on YouTube about the TM technique, including talks by Maharishi, and he became more and more intrigued. In the winter of 2014 he came to Fairfield for a TM Residence Course, which he really enjoyed. He was looking for a future career after baseball and teaching the TM technique to athletes and baseball players appealed to him.

The next fall, he enrolled in the MA in Maharishi Vedic Science program. In January 2016, he completed the TM-Sidhi program and is now applying for the upcoming TM Teacher Training Course in Bali.

“Brock is super nice and super smart, approaching every aspect of life with integrity and professionalism,” said Maharishi Vedic Science Professor Tom Egenes. “I am convinced that he will help many athletes live a healthier life by teaching them TM.”

“Baseball is such a mental game, and everybody is looking for an edge,” Brock said. For now, he is enjoying the peaceful lifestyle and healthy routine at MUM, which is a great contrast to his previous lifestyle. “I like the professors, and the people here seem happier and less stressed. I am getting what I came here for.”
