MUM Students Participate in First Global Enlightened Leadership Summit
Last month, a delegation of five students from MUM visited Vlodrop, Holland and participated in the first Global Enlightened Leadership Summit in Antalya, Turkey. Adrienne Schoenfeld, executive director of Enlightened Leadership International (ELI) led the group.
In Vlodrop, the group participated in Maharishi’s January 12th celebration and met privately with Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam. The purpose of the visit was to introduce the new global leadership network on an international stage for the first time and meet with the Rajas and top leaders of the Transcendental Meditation® organization.
“Having the opportunities to personally meet several Rajas and the Maharaja was exceptional,” said MUM student Sara Sanders. “They were all incredibly gracious and inviting and really listened to what we had to say.”
Next the group traveled to Turkey to join other global ambassadors for the first Global Enlightened Leadership Summit, which was part of a weeklong World Peace Assembly to create peace in the Middle East. Twenty-four young leaders came from the US, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Turkey, the UK, Norway, Uganda, Israel, Armenia, Puerto Rico, and Lebanon.
In addition to enjoying the extended practice of the TM® and TM-Sidhi® programs, participants spent time getting to know each other, sightseeing, and learning about Maharishi’s ideas on leadership. “It was really amazing to meet face to face with other young leaders who traveled from so far away to share in this experience,” said Sara.
Speakers included Raja Kingsley and Leslie Brooks, Dr. Eike Hartman and Lila-Maria Hartman Stein on sustainability and Maharishi VedicSM architecture, Jane Deans on communication, Dr. Ashley Deans on education, and Joachim Claes on the use of social media. The highlight of the summit was a conference call by Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam and MUM President Dr. Bevan Morris.
The Enlightened Leadership Program (ELP), which is part of ELI, began at MUM a year ago and went international 3 months ago. ELI is rapidly growing, currently with 70 global ELP ambassadors representing 30 countries. The goal of the program is to cultivate and connect the next generation of leaders and create a unified vision for the future based on Maharishi’s teachings coupled with practical leadership tools and mentorship.
