Professor Heaton Authors Chapter on Human Development

Dr. Dennis Heaton, professor of management at Maharishi University of Management, is the author of a chapter in a forthcoming book on higher stages of human development. Dr. Heaton’s article, “Transcendent Experience and Development of the Post-Representational Self,” will be published in The Postconventional Personality: Perspectives on Higher Development by SUNY Press. Dr. Heaton was invited to contribute the chapter based on his previous publications on the subject.

“The focus of our work at Maharishi University of Management has been to present the characteristics of higher states of consciousness from Maharishi Vedic Science as the natural continuation and extension of developmental psychology,” said Dr. Heaton.

Expanding on that chapter, Dr. Heaton and Ph.D. student Ravi Subramanian, have recently submitted a chapter proposal which has been accepted for an upcoming book on globalization and ethics.

Professor Heaton is Dean of Distance Education and International Programs and Co-Director of the Ph.D. in Management program. He teaches courses in social and environmentally responsible management and has been directing graduate student research on the effects of green buildings on human resources, consumer attitudes toward genetically modified food, moral development and ethical decision-making in accountants, financial impact of environmental management systems, and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s program to eliminate poverty.

Dr. Heaton's other forthcoming publications include a review of two documentaries for a special sustainability issue of the Academy of Management Learning and Education Journal, and an article about Maharishi's Natural Law Based Management in the Journal of Human Values.
