Mahliyo Sattarova originally hails from Uzbekistan a “country [that] not many people know exists,”as she likes to joke. She came to Maharishi International University (MIU) to complete her Masters in Business Administration. Hearing that she settled into a position as a Loan Adjustor at Wells Fargo, I reached out to Mahliyo to see how her post-graduation life was going.

After completing her studies at MIU, Mahliyo moved to Los Angeles to seek out an administrative job. When asked about her transition from a small town to a large city, Mahliyo said that it was an “important step that I knew I needed to take to grow as a person. It was time of realization of who I am and what I really wanted from this life.” However, “I was confused, scared and afraid of what life had to bring me in a new city.”

When she arrived in LA, Mahliyo couldn’t believe how many wealthy and successful people she met who “were deeply unsatisfied from life, unhealthy and stressed out.” The insight that people could be so disconnected from their inner selves pained Mahliyo. However, it was only after experiencing such a superficial community that Mahliyo was truly able to appreciate her experience in Fairfield.  This is “when I realized how going to Maharishi International University was one of the best decisions I have ever made,” she explained. “I can surely say my school taught me the importance of being connected to the source (the Self) and following my highest excitement in every moment.”

Mahliyo’s student visa expired around the same time that she realized the American dream she was striving to achieve would not bring her bliss. While Mahliyo took some time to recuperate in Fairfield, she was hired as a loan adjuster for Wells Fargo in Des Moines.

Mahliyo explained that “happiness and satisfaction cannot be obtained externally; it is something that is within us. Each of us can achieve it through silencing the mind using the simple TM technique which connects us to the source of all thoughts.”

While Mahliyo is confident in her spiritual beliefs, she made it clear that she is interested in having external success as well. “I still have goals that I aim to achieve in my career. I am learning a lot working in an American corporate environment – leadership, communication, the importance of team building, taking initiative and responsibility.”
