Fairfield was named one of America’s best small towns by Smithsonian Magazine.

From monthly “art walks,” to the summer Farmer’s Market, to a 15.7 mile loop trail through forests, wetlands, and prairies, Fairfield is bursting with creative culture and recreational opportunities.

  • Fairfield is home to dozens of organic farms, ranging from market gardens to 100-acre farms. Fairfield also has a local organic dairy.
  • The largest natural food store in southeast Iowa — Everybody’s Whole Foods — is located a few blocks from the MUM campus.
  • Fairfield’s Farmers Market is hosted at a park downtown May through October and offers locally grown produce as well as crafts and other products.

  • Fairfield’s 15.7 mile loop trail passes through forests, prairies, woodlands, wetlands, over bridges, and more. It’s popular for walking, jogging, biking, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
  • Waterworks Park, adjacent to the MUM campus, has a fresh-water swimming lake with sandy beach, playground, shelter, picnic area, and restrooms. There are 10 other parks located around Fairfield.
  • The Raj, America’s premier Ayurvedic health spa, is located two miles north of Fairfield.
