Robert Keith Wallace, PhD

Dr. Robert Keith Wallace is recognized as the pioneering researcher in the neurophysiology of higher states of consciousness. His research has been published in many journals including Scientific American and The American Journal of Physiology. Dr. Wallace’s research on the physiology of meditation opened the door for the study of the relationship between mind and body and its application in the field of behavioral medicine. After receiving his PhD in physiology at UCLA, he did postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Wallace is the author of two books, The Neurophysiology of Enlightenment and The Physiology of Consciousness, and has lectured extensively in over 50 countries around the world.


Robert Schneider, M.D., FACC, FABMR

Dr. Schneider is a physician researcher specializing in the field of natural medicine. For more than a decade, he and his collaborators have examined the efficacy of Maharishi Ayurveda and the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, especially hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Schneider is one of the founding faculty of the Department of Physiology and Health, and a consultant to the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on natural medicine.


Paul J. Morehead, PhD

Dr. Morehead has nearly two decades of experience in developing and teaching courses in Maharishi Ayurveda and Vedic Science. Courses taught by Dr. Morehead include: Maharishi Self-PulseTM Reading; Maharishi YogaTM Asanas; and Diet, Digestion, and Nutrition. He has been a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation program since 1973.

Sanford I. Nidich, Ed.D.    

Professor, Physiology and Health • Professor, Education • Associate Director, Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention

Since 1972, Dr. Nidich has conducted research on the effects of Maharishi Ayurveda on hypertension, self-actualization, drug abuse, and aging factors. He is co-investigator on several major National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants supporting study of Maharishi Ayurveda and cardiovascular disease.

Fred Travis, PhD

Dr. Travis earned an MS and PhD in Psychology from Maharishi University of Management, and a BS in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University.

Maxwell Rainforth, PhD    

Assistant Professor, Physiology and Health • Assistant Professor, Statistics

In addition to his PhD in Psychology, Dr. Rainforth holds an MS in Mathematics and an MA in Education. His work in Statistics has received support with grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Retirement Research Foundation. Before coming to the United States, he was a senior systems analyst in his native country of New Zealand.

Michael W. Lerom    
Assistant Professor, Chemistry

Michael Lerom received his MS degree in organic chemistry from the University of Oregon. He worked as a synthetic organic chemist at SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute) for 13 years and then came to Maharishi University of Management, where he teaches general chemistry and organic chemistry courses.
