B.A. in Literature with Emphasis in Writing
The Writing Program
A common axiom among writers is that “any kind of writing leads to good writing.” At this university we offer students the opportunity to engage in a wide range of writing genres that highlight all interests: travel writing, personal writing, screenwriting, journalism, poetry, fiction, literary non-fiction, environmental writing.
Another adage of professional writers is that “good writers are good readers.” Just as good musicians listen to the music of their contemporaries and predecessors, good writers immerse themselves in the distinguished literary canon of past and present. With this in mind, we have designed a program that is an equal mixture of the written and the literary.
Departmental Requirements
To fulfill the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Literature with an Emphasis in Writing, a student simply chooses a minimum of any 24 units of upper division writing courses (WTG 200 and above) and the same number of units from a large selection of literature courses (LIT 300 and above). See the list of literature courses.
The Minor in Writing
To graduate with a minor in writing, students must successfully complete any 5 advanced writing (WTG) courses 200-level or higher.
