  3. Evidence of a liberal arts background (course work in each of the following: humanities, physical science, life science, and arts)
  4. A personal interview with faculty in the department is required before acceptance to the program.
  5. All students take the Transcendental Meditation Transcendental Meditation technique (TM) course before or shortly after arriving on campus. Extensive research has found the TM technique boosts learning ability and creativity, optimizes brain functioning, and reduces stress. The TM technique and Consciousness-Based education are integral elements of all educational programs at our University. Students participating in the M.A. in Teaching program should feel comfortable with this aspect of education.
  6. A TOEFL test score of 600 or better is required for those students for whom English is not their native language.
  7. All students in the MAT program, regardless of their language background, must pass a test of basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics in order to be admitted to student teaching. We use the “Praxis I” tests for assessing these basic skills, and students must receive a minimum score of 170 on all three tests in order to continue. You will have three times to take each test, and students whose native language is not English may request additional time for the tests. More information on the Praxis test
  8. A computer and a printer are required for all students.
