Eco-Fair to "Energize Metamorphosis to Sustainability"

Eco-Fair 2011, to be held April 15–17, will inspire everyone to join the global shift to sustainability through visiting speakers, workshops, vendors, and the EcoJam Fashion Show, as well as some new events this year: an EcoJob Fair, EcoBand Stage, Kids Corner, and booths hosted by sustainability clubs from other schools.

"It will be an utter mash-up of creative expression, enlightening exposure of knowledge, and ultimate fun galore," said student organizer Emanuel Schachinger.

The speakers lined up as of mid-March included:

  • Kevin Doyle, president of Green Economy and coauthor of three books on environmental careers
  • Richard Kahn, a specialist in education for sustainability and author of three books
  • Jeffrey Borderlon, president of PlacerSustain, Inc, and specialist in developing community sustainability networks
  • Kim Strubell, cofounder and chief operating officer for Caritas Seeds, a non-profit organization that trains farmers in countries plagued by famine to feed their families sustainably by using locally available resources.

The workshops, as usual, will be hands-on, including sustainable garden design, tree planting, grafting, and more.

The EcoJam fashion show will highlight young and local designers and their recycled, sustainable fashion creations.

The EcoJob fair will allow employers in the area of sustainability to connect with interested students, either for employment or for internships.

The EcoBand Stage will be offered on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, featuring local bands.

The Kids Corner will offer a storyteller, face painting, and more.
