Ambulance

Call 911. Twenty-four hour ambulance service is available in Fairfield. When calling for an ambulance in an emergency, please state the location and the problem at hand. Stay on the line until the emergency operator tells you to hang up. The ambulance drivers will arrive quickly with the appropriate equipment if the situation has been properly described.

Emergencies

Call 911 for ambulance and paramedics. Then call Campus Security at (641) 472-1115 at your earliest convenience. Campus Security will notify the Dean of Students

Campus Nurse

Contact Deidre Lentz, RN, Dreier Building Room 236, (641) 472-7000 ext. 3411, nurse@mum.edu, for advice, first aid, minor medical concerns, and assistance in obtaining medical care. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m.

Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield, IA

Jefferson County Hospital is located at 2000 South Main Street in Fairfield. Phone number is 472–4111. Services include emergency room, X-ray, maternity, many surgical procedures, and in/out-patient programs.

For non-emergencies it is best to call your doctor or one of the doctors in town to see if they can see you immediately. Many medical conditions can be treated at the doctor’s office. Even if you don’t have a doctor, you can often get an urgent appointment with a doctor on the day you call.

Transportation

The Jefferson County Hospital Foundation offers a courtesy van service to transport local residents to the Jefferson County Healthcare Center. The service operates from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can take you to and from your appointment in town or to Maharishi Vedic City.

The driver, John Barnett, appreciates receiving notice the day before your scheduled appointment but last minute rides are usually possible. To schedule a ride please call 472-4115. The fee for this service is $1.00 each way, and $2.00 each way, to and from Vedic City. There is a $1.00 additional charge for each stop, e.g., the pharmacy. Schedule in advance if possible.

Cita Bus (641) 472- 4403. For students are 60 years and older, Cita Bus is available between 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. There is no set charge; contribution is up to the individual. It operates only within city limits.
