Housing Departure Form and Security Deposit
Each student, whether living on or off campus, pays a security deposit. This deposit is held by the University to cover any unpaid fines (overdue library books, campus traffic tickets, etc.) or unpaid housing charges.
Security deposits are refunded when a student leaves the University. To apply for this refund, students must turn in a completed Housing Departure Form to the University Housing Office within 3 days after the last day they attend class. These forms may be picked up outside the Housing Office.
Room Check-Out Procedures
Students leaving the University must move out of their rooms within 72 hours of their last day of class. Here are the steps to follow before leaving:
- Pick up a Housing Departure Form from the Housing Office and follow the departure procedure. The Resident Advisor will help you fill out this form and the room inventory sheet.
- Remove all belongings from the room and any storage areas. (The University can assume no responsibility for articles left in private rooms or residence halls after a student’s departure. If personal belongings are left in the room, the student is charged, and the items are discarded. )
- Clean and vacuum rooms and leave them in good order. (Otherwise, a charge will be assessed to defray the cleaning costs.)
- International students must return sheets, towels, and blankets to the Housing Office.
- Lock the room.
- Turn in the door card to the Housing Office.
- Return the key to the Locksmith and have the Locksmith sign the Housing Departure Form.
- Return the completed Housing Departure Form to the Housing Office within 72 hours of the last class attended. In order for the University to process requests for return of the security deposit, students must return this form.
