We use the Iowa Department of Education Student Teaching Evaluation (IDESTE) to evaluate our student teachers' competencies. Student teachers use the IDESTE as a self-evaluation, and cooperating teachers fill it out as a midterm and final evaluation. The form can be downloaded and completed, then printed for use during the midterm and final evaluation conferences. A digital or hard copy of both the midterm and final evaluation should be sent to the MUM Education Department.
The Iowa Department of Education requires all student teachers be evaluated by their cooperating teachers using the Iowa Teaching Standards framework. This evaluation is to be shared with the student teacher, but is for the student's use only; a copy is not kept by the MUM Education Department.
The MUM Education Department has a lesson evaluation form for student teaching that is based on the ten assessment criteria used in the IDESTE. Cooperating teachers can use this evaluation form to give regular feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
To encourage student teachers to vary their instructional approaches, we ask that cooperating teachers ensure that there is evidence of several different kinds of teaching. The Lesson Variety form below can be emailed to the Education Department before the end of the the student teaching assignment.
