Waiver of departmental requirements

Waiver of departmental requirements is considered after original transcripts from all the schools you previously attended have been evaluated by the Registrar's Office.

Your transcripts will be forwarded to the department advisor of your major, minor(s), or graduate program, to assess whether any departmental requirements can be waived. The results of this evaluation will be returned to the Registrar's Office, and you will then receive a copy of the final evaluation.

Transfer Credit Policies

Undergraduate degree students can apply to transfer units from prior college-level work to cover elective credit and up to half the credit for coursework in the major (a maximum of 100 total semester units). Transfer credits are accepted on a course-by-course basis from accredited colleges and universities, and other institutions with the approval of the Registrar, for courses completed with a grade of "C" or higher. The Registrar's Office and the major departmental advisor do the evaluation of transfer units. Students apply for this evaluation through the Registrar's Office.

Graduate degree students transfer course credit on a course-by-course basis, determined by the departmental advisor. Generally, a minimum grade of "B" is required in order to transfer credit at the graduate level. Students apply for this evaluation through the Registrar's Office.

Credit from international institutions will be evaluated on an individual basis. To be considered for transfer credit, any non-English academic records must be accompanied by a certified English translation. This should be included with the student's admission materials.

Transfer students must apply to the Registrar for a transfer credit evaluation before the end of their first semester.

Transfer credit taken after a student first enters the University must be approved in advance by their program or major department and the Academic Standards Committee.
