Sports and Recreation

There are many different ways to stay fit at Maharishi University of Management, including • soccer • tennis • volleyball • golf • archery • swimming • basketball • fitness training • aerobics • badminton • running • dance • gymnastics • rock climbing • weight conditioning • windsurfing, and others.

Recreation Center

The Rec Center is a 60,000-square-foot indoor facility, one of the largest indoor university sports facilities in the state of Iowa. Facilities inside include: a track, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, a 28-foot rock climbing wall, weight room, gymnastics center, and ping-pong tables. See panoramic views of the Rec Center.

Swimming

MUM has an outdoor swimming pool, open June to September, to complement the indoor pool in Fairfield open all year long. Adjacent to MUM's pool is a sand volleyball court, open year-round. Waterworks Park, adjacent to the MUM campus, has a fresh-water swimming lake with sandy beach, playground, shelter, picnic area, and restrooms.

Soccer

There is also a soccer stadium, the home field of the University soccer team. Our players represent as many as 16 countries, and our team has been three-time undefeated champion of its league.

Adventure

Eager for adventure? The Department of Exercise and Sport Science offers three-day trips (on weekends between courses). These exhilarating, professionally supervised adventures include • alpine skiing • rock climbing in the scenic rock parks of Iowa • kayaking the Wolf River’s white water • cross-country skiing • horseback riding • long canoe trips, or • sail boarding the wide lakes of the Midwest. There is also a special camping trip for first-year students held in early September.

Trail system

Fairfield’s 22-mile recreational trail system circles the west and north boundaries of the MUM campus, and passes through forests, prairies, woodlands, wetlands, over bridges, and more. It’s popular for walking, jogging, biking, and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Tennis

Six outdoor tennis courts on the eastern part of campus complement our four indoor courts in the Rec Center.

Dance

The Argiro Student Center and the Academic Classrooms Building feature hardwood sprung dance floors. Dance classes are available in ballet, improv, modern, jazz, aerobics, salsa and other Latin dances, and tango and other ballroom dance genres. Many of these classes can be used for academic credit.
