University Now Offers Green MBA

March 7, 2007

Students interested in earning an MBA can now also graduate with a specialization focusing on sustainability in order to prepare for careers in the growing fields of sustainable management and environmental science.

The specialization is offered in conjunction with the undergraduate program in Sustainable Living. Students take the required courses for the MBA and three courses in sustainability to receive a specialization in sustainable management. In addition, students have the option of taking five courses in sustainability to earn a certificate in sustainable management.

Student Robbie Gongwer, who plans to do green consulting, is among the first to take advantage of this new specialization. He says that the concept of a green MBA is spreading rapidly around the country, and that he appreciates the added value of a Natural Law perspective at Maharishi University of Management.

“I came here because of the value of understanding Natural Law,” he says. “I felt I needed to align myself with that.”

The sustainable management certificate or specialization prepares graduates to create sustainable businesses, recognize the business potential of emerging technologies, and to make decisions that include sustainable considerations.

This program supplements the focus on sustainable management in the regular MBA with specific courses in sustainability. This degree can be completed in two years, but students with a strong background in business may complete the MBA program with a sustainable management certificate in one year.
