Music & Consciousness Symposium — May 14–15, 2011

The new Creative Musical Arts (CMA) program of Maharishi University of Management and the International Association of Meditating Musicians (IAMM) invites the musical community to a celebration of music and consciousness.

The symposium will include presentations by legendary ‘Father of World Music’ Paul Horn, Eugene Watts of the Canadian Brass, renowned Canadian singer/poet/author Ann Mortifee, and Professor Ed Sarath from the University of Michigan. Open-forum discussions will be held on consciousness-based approaches to creating, performing, and teaching music in today’s global environment. All are invited to play music together Saturday night, and the weekend highlight will be the Sunday evening concert honoring Paul Horn. See the schedule of events for details.

The foundation of the CMA program is the profound connection between music, consciousness, and creativity, which is developed through the practice of Transcendental Meditation. This provides a holistic, innovative approach to musicianship that allows each student to develop his/her unique, artistic voice.

“We look forward to this gathering of creative minds, diverse skills, and deep knowledge, to help define musical study for the 21st century,” says Isabelle Matzkin, director of the CMA program.
