B.A. in Literature

Degree Requirements

In addition to the requirements below for the B.A. in Literature, students need to satisfy the general requirements for a bachelor’s degree.

48 credits of course work are required for the B.A. in Literature, as follows:

Required courses

  • LIT 350 American Transcendentalism
  • LIT 351 American Modernism
  • LIT 335 Shakespeare’s Festival of Comedy
  • LIT 208 The Bhagavad-Gita as Literature or LIT 302 The Epic (Ramayana)
  • LIT 325 The Classics of Greece & Rome or LIT 355 Asian Literature

plus 3 historical surveys among the following:

  • LIT 320 Medieval Literature
  • LIT 339 Renaissance Literature
  • LIT 341 18th-Century Literature
  • LIT 344 Romantic Literature
  • LIT 347 Victorian
  • LIT 348 20th-Century European Literature

plus literature courses from other literature course electives adding up to 48 credits overall
