B.A. in Literature

Requirements

  • Structure of the Literature Major:

    Students are required to take the following literature courses:

    LIT 350 American Transcendentalism
    LIT 351 American Modernism
    LIT 335 Shakespeare’s Festival of Comedy
    LIT 208 The Bhagavad-Gita as Literature or LIT 302 The Epic (Ramayana)
    LIT 325 The Classics of Greece & Rome or LIT 355 Asian Literature
    plus
    Three historical surveys among the following:
    LIT 320 Medieval Literature
    LIT 339 Renaissance Literature
    LIT 341 18th-Century Literature
    LIT 344 Romantic Literature
    LIT 347 Victorian
    LIT 348 20th-Century European Literature
    plus
    Literature courses from other literature course electives (see Literature Course Titles) adding up to 48 units overall

    The Minor in Literature

    To graduate with a minor in literature, students must successfully complete any 5 upper division literature (LIT) courses.
