Policy on Management of New Books Accounts:
MUM Library has a policy of letting faculty purchasers determine the spending for their departments, but the money has been allocated to MUM library’s book budget and will be spent on books through the general account if the faculty do not select books in a timely manner.
The deadlines are November 15 and March 15. It is strongly recommended that half of the book budget should be used by the departmental purchasers by November 15, to ensure that our staff members have time to order the materials at the best price.
Departments will have the option of asking the library to do their selection at the beginning, if it is a burden for them to do it.
If the budget allocated to a department is not fully used by March 15, 2012, the Library will use the remaining funds in collection development at its discretion. In most cases, the reference librarian and the director will spend that portion of the budget on that department as much as they can, using standard collection methods, with any remainder going to other departments.
The Library follows the recently reaffirmed university guidelines for purchasing. Basically, this means getting the best possible price for a given item. If there is a concern about this policy, the MUM Finance Board may be approached about the issue.
The Library has the option of ordering books other than those requested if they do not reflect academic standards, and the needs of the department, or appear to be for personal use.
Once a book or video arrives, if a faculty purchaser has ordered the book, the faculty purchaser will be informed and the item will be put on a shelf awaiting faculty approval. If the item is not examined and either approved or rejected in two weeks, it will automatically be added to the collection under that department’s budget.

We need to limit faculty checkout of books, since there is increasing student demand for books. This is the policy approved by the Library Board:
1. Faculty may check out up to 100 books at a time for a period of 6 months, and for a maximum of 2 years.
2. Once the limit is reached, the faculty member must return books in numbers equal to the ones that they check out.
3. Note that a particular book may be kept by a faculty member for a maximum of two years, and then it must return to circulation.

To be responsible for all materials borrowed on my card. My card is for my use only and should not be lent or used by anyone else. I understand that I must check out materials before taking them out of the library.
To provide identification in order to check out materials.
To pay all fines and fees associated with my account including but not limited to overdue fines, repair costs for damaged items, and replacement fees for lost items. I understand that borrowing privileges may be suspended until associated fees and fines are resolved.
To report the loss or theft of my card immediately. I am responsible for all items checked out on my card prior to reporting my card lost or stolen.
To report changes in my account information in person or by calling 472-1154.
On request, and after saving my data, to immediately remit use of computers to student users at high volume times.
To observe proper decorum and good conduct in the library and to refer any issues that might arise with staff or others to the library supervisors
To comply with all library rules and policies. I also understand that any failure to comply with library rules and policies may result in termination of my library privileges.

BOOK DONATION POLICY
Thank you for your interest in donating materials to MUM Library.
Due to space considerations, we have developed a policy for materials donations:
If you have a donation of 35 or more books, please call or make an appointment with the library director (641-472-1148 or email email@example.com)
We are looking for current materials that would add to the academic nature of our collection.
We do not accept VHS videos, LP recordings, audiotapes or other out-of date materials. DVDs will be accepted if there is no institutional fee required.
We do not accept journals, which require institutional fees and must also be collected systematically.
If we decide at a later time that your donation will not benefit the collection, we remove it and, if possible, sell it.
If you would like to have a receipt for the donation, to ensure that we have an accurate acknowledgement, please let us know at the time that you donate the books. You will be responsible for setting a value on your donation but we can ask the development office to send you an acknowledgement of your generosity.
