Using Outlook Express for E-mail

Using the Address Book

The address book remembers the e-mail addresses of all your correspondents. When you send an e-mail to someone in your address book, all you have to do is start typing the person's real name. Outlook Express finishes the name for you (PC) or lists the name for you (Mac) and you don't have to even think about the actual e-mail address. There are several ways to add someone to the address book:

  • When you receive an e-mail from someone, choose Tools > Add (Sender) to Address Book
  • To add an e-mail address directly into the address book, click Addresses (PC) or Open Address Book (Mac) on the toolbar. Then click New > (New) Contact. Type the person's name and e-mail address and click OK. You can use the tabs (PC) or the boxes (Mac) to add other information about the person as well.

To choose someone from the address book (if you're not sure of the person's exact name, for example), start a new message and click To at the top of the message. You can then choose someone from the list. Click To: to send the e-mail to the person. You can send e-mail to several people this way. You can also click CC: to send a copy to the person or Bcc: to send a blind copy to the person (the main recipients don't know a copy went to that person). To use the Bcc: box, choose View > All Headers. Then click OK.
