Dialing Up to the Internet Through M.U.M.
Setting TCP/IP Properties
You need to specify the settings for TCP/IP.
(Note: If you have more than one dial-up connection, for example if you dial up both to M.U.M. and to another Internet Service Provider, you should change the TCP/IP settings at the specific connection icon, not from the Network dialog box. First create the Dial-Up Connection (see the next section), then right-click the connection icon and choose Properties. On the Server Types tab, click TCP/IP.)
- From the previous procedure, the Network dialog box should be
open. If not, open it by choosing Start > Settings > Control
Panel and double-clicking the Network icon.

- Click TCP/IP and click Properties.
- On the DNS Configuration tab, click Enable DNS. In the Host
text box, type your User ID (given to you by M.U.M. Information
Systems Dept.). The domain is mum.edu. DNS Server Search
Order box, type the first number shown here. Click Add. Then type
the second number and again click Add. Leave the Domain Suffix
Search Order section blank. The tab should look like the figure at
the right.
- The Gateway tab should be blank, with no installed
gateways.
- On the WINS configuration tab, Disable WINS Configuration
should be selected.
- On the IP Address tab, Obtain an IP Address Automatically
should be selected.
- The Bindings tab should be blank (unless you also connect via
a network).

a network).

- Click OK again to close the Network dialog box.
