Dialing Up to the Internet Through M.U.M.

Setting M.U.M. Connection Properties

Now you need to specify settings specific to this dial-up connection:

  1. Right-click the M.U.M. icon in the Dial-Up Networking window and choose Properties (or go to the menu and choose File > Properties).
  2. Click the Server Types tab, shown in the figure.
  3. The Type of Dial-Up Server should be PPP:Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98 (or something similar, depending on the version of Windows you have).
  4. There should be a check next to Log On to Network
  5. There should be a check next to Enable Software Compression.
  6. Require Encrypted Password and Require Data Encryption should not be checked.
  7. If you want to keep a log file of your dial up connections, you can check Record a Log File for This Connection.
  8. In the Allowed Network Protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked.
  9. Click TCP/IP Settings to open the TCP/IP Settings dialog box, as shown in the figure.
  10. Server Assigned IP Address should be selected at the top.
  11. In the middle section, Server Assigned Name Server Addresses should be selected.
  12. Use IP Header Compressions should not be checked.
  13. Use Default Gateway on Remote Network should be checked.
  14. Click OK twice to return to the Dial-Up Networking window. Congratulations! You have completed setting up your dial-up networking connection. You are now ready to connect.
