Dialing Up to the Internet Through M.U.M.
Logging In to M.U.M.
- To connect, double-click your M.U.M. icon in the Dial-Up
Networking window. Tip: Instead of going the long way (Start
> Programs > Accessories > Communications > Dial-Up
Networking), you can double-click My Computer on the desktop and
then double-click Dial-Up Networking. For even faster access,
right click the Dial-Up Networking icon and choose Create
Shortcut. Then drag the shortcut to your desktop.
- In the Connect To dialog box, enter your userid and password
given to you by the Information Systems department. (This is
sometimes called the Kerberos Username and password.)
- If you wish Windows to remember your password, click Remember
Password.
- Click Connect. You should hear the modem dialing (unless you
turned the sound off). A window opens telling you that the modem
is dialing. (If you get a busy signal, try again.)

- If you selected Bring Up Terminal Window After Dialing on the
Options tab of the Modem Properties dialog box, you now see the
Post-Dial Terminal Screen. Type your userid (username or login
name). Use only lower case letters. Press Enter. At the prompt for
your password, enter your dial-up password (also called Kerberos
password) and press Enter. You should see some text or characters
appear on the screen. Click Continue or press F7.
- You now see a window telling you that the system is verifying
your username and password, then that it is logging on to the
network. You are now connected! The window disappears and you see
a small icon on your taskbar tray (at the bottom right corner of
your screen). You can now open your Internet software (Web browser
or email program) and use it.
- To disconnect, right-click the icon on the tray and choose
Disconnect.
