Installing Programs on the PC
Installing Software from a CD-ROM
- Press the CD-ROM drive button to open the CD-ROM drive.
- Carefully insert the CD-ROM, label side up in the CD-ROM drive. Make sure it is seated properly and lies flat.
- Press the CD-ROM drive button to close the CD-ROM drive.
- In most cases, a window opens automatically. An installation program starts. Just follow the directions.
- If no window opens, Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click Install, then click Next. Windows automatically looks for the installation program on your CD-ROM. Continue to follow the instructions on the screen.
- When you are done, carefully remove the CD-ROM from the drive and put it away.
- Try out your new program! Often you see a window on your desktop and you can start the program by double-clicking the application's icon. Otherwise, choose Start > Programs and click the program on your program list.
Installing Software that You Downloaded from the Internet
- Once you have found a site that lets you download software you want, follow the instructions on the site. It is helpful to print the instructions before you download so you can have them afterwards.
- During the download, you usually see a Download window that lets you know the progress of the download.
- Follow the directions that you have from the Web site. The program may install automatically or you may need to double-click the file you downloaded to start installation.
- Try out your new program! Often you see a window on your desktop and you can start the program by double-clicking the application's icon. Otherwise, choose Start > Programs and click the program on your program list.
Deleting Programs
- Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: Only programs that were designed for Windows can be removed by using Add/Remove Programs. For all other programs, check the program's documentation to determine which files should be removed.
