Editing Text

Selecting Text

To make any changes in the text, you must first highlight the text. You can highlight the text in several ways:

  • Click and drag the mouse cursor across the text.
  • Click the first letter, press Shift and click the last letter.
  • To select a word, double click it.
  • To select a sentence, press Ctrl on the keyboard (PC) or Command (Mac) and hold it down while you click the mouse anywhere in the sentence.
  • To select a line at a time, place the mouse cursor along the left side of the line and click. You can drag downwards to select several lines at once.

Editing Text

To change existing text, select it and type the new text.

  • To insert text, click where you want to insert the new text. Type the new text.

Deleting Text

Here are two ways to delete text:

  1. Select the text and press Delete on the keyboard.
  2. Click to the right of the text you want to delete. Press Backspace (on the PC) or Delete (on the Mac) as many times as necessary.

Moving Text

When you move text from one place to another in your document, the text disappears from the first location and appears in the new location. Follow these steps:

  1. Select the text (click and drag the mouse across the text).
  2. Click the scissors (Cut) button on the Standard (top) toolbar. (Shortcut: press Ctrl + X on the PC or Option + X on the Mac.)
  3. Click the the new location for the text.
  4. Click the paste button (it looks like a clipboard) on the Standard toolbar. (Shortcut: press Ctrl + V on the PC or Option + V on the Mac.)

Copying Text

When you copy text from one place to another, the text remains in the first location and is duplicated in the new location. Follow these steps:

  1. Select the text (click and drag the mouse across the text).
  2. Click the Copy (it looks like two documents) button on the Standard (top) toolbar. (Shortcut: press Ctrl + C on the PC or Option + C on the Mac.)
  3. Click the the new location for the text.
  4. Click the paste button (it looks like a clipboard) on the Standard toolbar. (Sholrtcut: press Ctrl + V on the PC or Option + V on the Mac.)
