Lesson Sample
The Maharishi Gandharva Veda Time Theory, samaya chakra, is the theory of applying specific qualities of certain ragas (melodies) according to specific times of day or seasons. By upholding the natural qualities of intelligence that prevail in nature at different times of day, the ragas establish a harmonious resonance between the physiology and the fundamental frequencies of intelligence in nature. According to samaya chakra, each day is subdivided into eight 3-hour periods or praharas. Each prahara is generally associated with certain subtle qualities (see below), expressed by different corresponding ragas. Click on a time of day to select a sample melody on sitar by Pandit Debu Chaudhuri, or a sample melody on bamboo flute by Pandit Amar Nath. “The teachers are very warm and friendly and kind, and it seems like I'm learning without any effort... I feel like I'm being rejuvenated. It's a very profound experience.” – Betty Sheffield, student These melodies can be opened using either of two free programs: Real Alternative for the PC or RealPlayer for the Mac.
