Maharishi Gandharva Veda concerts are performed regularly during the academic
school year on the University's campus.
Listening to concerts of Maharishi Gandharva Veda music produces a scientifically documented beneficial influence on the physiology and environment. The power of the effect of the music is directly proportional to the number of listeners. The harmonizing influence of the music resonates in the consciousness of the listeners, multiplying the effect of coherence in the environment. This is the basis of the age-old tradition of people gathering in large groups to listen to music concerts. It is best to listen to Maharishi Gandharva Veda sitting comfortably with the eyes closed, simply allowing the attunement with the eternal rhythms and frequencies of Nature to take place.
Maharishi Gandharva Veda is based on melodies called ragas (pronounced “rahgs”). Each raga has a unique structure which combines set musical rules with infinite possibilities of variation, ornamentation, improvisation and composition, allowing the musician to bring out all the subtle values of the frequencies characteristic of the raga. Each of these ragas traces the vibrations and pattern of a particular time of day. When a melody is played during the specified time period, it creates a natural balance and harmony in the awareness and in the environment, and through the particular subtle quality (rasa) of each raga, characteristics such as greater courage, self-confidence, wisdom, and happiness are enlivened.
Private concerts are also available upon request; or phone (641) 472 8240.
