Education

  • Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst

Research Interests

  • He is the author of a recent book, The Trade-off between Cost and Risk in Hazardous Waste Management.
  • He has published many research papers and his work has been presented at national and international conferences, including the 1989 workshop, Economic Mechanisms for Environmental Protection in Jelenia, Poland, and the 1989 Conference on Business and Government: Cooperation and Regulation at Bentley College in Massachusetts.
  • He has co-authored papers presented before the Maine Public Utility Commission, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Telephone Information Agency (NTIA).
  • He has taught economic theory, environmental economics, and cost-benefit analysis at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Antioch/New England Graduate School, and Clark University.
  • Dr. Sewall has worked as an independent consultant and as an associate of Jonathan Byrnes and Co. of Cambridge, Mass.
  • He has worked with senior management of such corporations as NYNEX, Bell Atlantic, Baxter International, and SNET, primarily on developing competitive strategies.
  • He has also conducted research for public interest groups such as the Environmental Defense Fund on the use of economic incentives to manage environmental problems.
  • Dr. Sewall has extensive experience as an investment advisor and manages substantial portfolios for individual investors.
  • He is also a general partner of Orchard Acres Associates, a real estate company that owns and manages apartment complexes. As a partner, he has expertise in purchasing, financing, and managing real estate.
  • Dr. Sewall also sits on the board of directors of Sustainable Forest Systems (USA and Paraguay) and Maharishi Global Vedic Observatories Corporation of Fairfield, Iowa.

Dr. Sewall lives in Fairfield, Iowa, with his wife Laurie and his daughter Ariel. He has been a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation program since 1974. His hobbies include windsurfing, scuba diving, and alpine skiing.
