Basic Knots — The Round Turn and Two Half Hitches
Use: For mooring boat to dock or piling, fastening anchor line to anchor, tying towline to mast, etc.
The round turn reduces amount of chafing and wearing on rope. If there is a heavy pull, add extra turns.
Step 1: Take two round turns (or more) around post.
Step 2: Make first half hitch, and keep going around line in same direction for second half hitch.
