B.A./M.A. in Educational Innovation — Elementary Education

Five-Year Combined Degree Program

A major in Educational Foundations, together with an M.A. in Educational Innovation, prepares students to teach all subjects in a self-contained elementary classroom. Using a consciousness-based approach as well as best practices in contemporary education, you develop your own potential as a teacher while awakening your students’ creativity and intelligence.  You become a highly effective teacher who can teach in public or private schools nationwide.

This program requires five years of full time study, leading to a B.A. in Educational Foundations, an M.A. in Educational Innovation, and an Iowa K-6 teaching license. The focus in the undergraduate years is on developing content knowledge for teaching all elementary subjects, and understanding the foundations of innovative education.  At the master’s level in the fifth year, students participate in guided experiences of practice teaching in elementary school classrooms, ending with a full-time, four month student teaching internship.

The University’s teacher education programs are approved by the State of Iowa and incorporate all regional and national standards. They also provide a thorough training in the principles and practices of Consciousness-Based education.

Beginning in Fall, 2012, the Elementary Education track of the B.A./M.A. in Educational Innovation will be open only to incoming students with the equivalent of two years of transfer credit. Incoming first year students can still major in Educational Foundations, but the licensure option for elementary education at the graduate level will not be available.
