Raul was awarded an NIH grant to do his post doctoral training in social and cardiovascular epidemiology at the Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention at the Stanford School of Medicine. He also was the project director of the Family Project/Proyecto La Familia at Arizona State University, an NIH study investigating the effects of culture and context on the mental and physical development of Mexican-American children.
