The Learner and Learning

Standard #1: Learner Development

Demonstrates an understanding of human growth and development and of how students learn.

Standard #2: Learning Environments

Uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior; creates a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation; maintains effective classroom management; and is prepared to address behaviors related to substance abuse and other high-risk behaviors.

Knowledge of Content

Standard #3: Content Knowledge

Understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches.

Instructional Practice

Standard #4: Assessment

Understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the student, and effectively uses both formative and summative assessment, including student achievement data, to determine appropriate instruction.

Standard #5: Planning for Instruction

Plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, curriculum goals and state curriculum models.  Designs developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences that meet the multiple learning needs of students.

Understands the principles and practices of Consciousness-Based Education, their significance and applications.

Standard #7: Educational Innovation

Understands the projected outcomes of a wide range of initiatives for improving education in one’s classroom, school and district, and evaluates a proposed innovation for its potential impact on student learning and growth.

Professional Responsibility

Standard #8: Foundations
