Computer Science (B.S.)
Overview
The Computer Science department offers a B.S. in Computer Science that prepares students for successful careers in computer technology and information systems.
The B.S. in Computer Science program offers a strong foundation in all the main areas of computer science, with an emphasis on applied topics in current technology and software development. Courses are taught using Java and C# programming languages, so you will gain practical experience in the most widely used programming technologies.
Master’s degree in one additional year
Another option for students interested in computer science is the combined B.S. and M.S. degree, where students earn a master’s degree in computer science (MSCS) in only one additional year.
In this option, students enroll in the mathematical sciences track and then begin taking graduate courses in their senior year along with their undergraduate courses, continuing into their fifth year with graduate courses in computer science, and finishing with the MSCS degree. The advantages of this degree program are improved depth of knowledge and enhancement of career prospects.
Entrance Requirements
Before entering the computer science major or minor, students must successfully complete the course Intermediate Algebra (MATH 153) or its equivalent.
