Students enjoy Fairfield, Iowa

Fairfield, Iowa, the home of Maharishi University of Management, offers students an unusual number of opportunities. Eleven Fairfield companies have hired our students as part of their curricular practical training.

“For a city of 10,000 people, we are surprisingly cosmopolitan,” says Mayor Ed Malloy, who received the Grassroots Rural Entrepreneurial Award in 2003 from the National Association of Small Communities in 2003. The award was given to recognize the City for its large number of start-up companies, which have raised over $200 million in venture capital in the last 10 years.

“We have over 30 restaurants, a thriving community of visual and performing artists, and state-of-the art communications technology, including a fiber-optic network,” the mayor reports. In 2006 the city was also named one of Iowa's Great Places.

Even though it has many big-city features, Fairfield keeps the advantages of its small size. Incoming Compro students from around the world remark about how friendly and relaxed the community is.

“I feel very much at home here,” says Kosana Wira-Praja. of Indonesia. “It's a very comfortable place.”
