US Practical Training Jobs Available

Computer Professionals Program students at Maharishi University of Management are experiencing a new wave of interest from employers. “Hiring managers seem to be more active,” said University Placement Director Julie Stephens. “We’re seeing substantial movement: during the past two weeks, 12 students received job offers.”

Microsoft remains the largest employer of Maharishi University computer science students and they have increased their pace of hiring. According to a report from onenewspage.com the company plans to spend over $9 billion in R&D this year, up from $8.2 billion in 2008. Currently more than 100 Computer Professionals Program students work at practical training positions at Microsoft.

Software engineering and computer systems design were the fastest-growing US high tech jobs in the fourth quarter of 2008. According to the lobbying group, TechAmerica, only 1.6% of software engineers and 3.7% of computer programmers were unemployed in 2008. The Obama Administration's stimulus package will add significantly to the prospects for IT workers. It is projected to create nearly 1 million new high tech jobs in the coming months and years.

Students in our upcoming entry will begin to search for a practical training job following 8 months of full time study on campus. “We’re anticipating increased demand for IT professionals particularly in smaller to mid-size companies throughout the US; soft money from the government stimulus package should produce significant opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Stephens.

"The latest unemployment numbers for 2008 for computer software engineers is 1.6%...That's beyond full employment," says Josh James, Director of Research and Industry Analysis with TechAmerica. "Computer programmers' unemployment rate has gone up from 2.5% in 2007 to 3.7% in 2008. That's a sign that programming skills are easier to do from anywhere in the world. But the high-growth jobs include skills that are hard to send abroad such as systems integration and IT managers."
