Jane Schmidt-Wilk, associate professor of management, was recently appointed editor of the Journal of Management Education, the leading publication for college-level teachers of management.

Dr. Schmidt-Wilk had served for the past 18 months as an interim co-editor while a search committee sought a new editor with a well-known name and ties to a major university. But in the end, they decided that the best and most-qualified candidate was Dr. Schmidt-Wilk.

In a note to Dr. Schmidt-Wilk after she accepted the position, Kim Cameron, chairman of the search committee and professor at the University of Michigan, wrote, “Thank you for your gracious note and for accepting this crucial position as editor of the Journal of Management Education. Your incredibly competent and unselfish service is obvious, and I am grateful that your impact will continue on the journal. The Journal of Management Education couldn’t be in better hands. Thank you for being willing to lead our scholarly efforts. We all benefit greatly from your competence and insight.”

The Journal of Management Education is hosted by the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, in which Dr. Schmidt-Wilk has been very active.

In a letter to members of the Society announcing the appointment, the Society’s president, Joan Gallos, announced the appointment and praised Dr. Schmidt-Wilk and Susan Herman, her co-editor, for their work over the past 18 months. “Together, they have brought a new level of organization, impact, and professionalism to the journal, and we know that will continue as Jane takes the leadership reins,” she wrote.

In addition to her editorial responsibilities, Dr. Schmidt-Wilk will lead a committee to develop a strategic vision for the journal to foster greater excellence in management education and to increase the journal’s visibility and impact within the larger academic community.

The journal is published by SAGE Publications, a leading international publisher in scholarly and professional journals. It covers research and analysis on teaching management and organizational behavior and serves as a forum for the improvement of management education in classroom and corporate settings.

In 2000, Dr. Schmidt-Wilk published an article in this journal, coauthored with Drs. Dennis Heaton and David Steingard, on the University’s Consciousness-Based^SM approach to management education.
