Career Center

On-Campus Career Activities

The Career Development Center provides Consciousness-Based career strategies for students, alumni, and other members of the community. Our Center provides a program tailored to each individual in terms of:

  • goal-setting and decision-making
  • assessment recommendations
  • strategies for career development
  • links for career choices, job listings, and corporate research on the Internet
  • career search skills development (resumé and cover letter writing, networking, and interviewing)

The Career Center also actively seeks internships and job opportunities for students and graduates in areas of interest commensurate with the University’s degree programs. It provides networking leads and placement opportunities in Fairfield, the Midwest, and North America through:

  • job listings on this site
  • part-time and full-time job boards in the Student Union
  • participation in career fairs in the Midwest
  • appointments with a career advisor

There is no charge for on-campus career services for students. Alumni of the University can meet with a career advisor at a reduced rate. All others, please check with us for fees and appointment scheduling.

Students, alumni, Fairfield residents or visitors can access services by appointment in our office, 10:00 p.m. — 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To make an appointment, or to post job opportunities on the Student Union job board, please e-mail , or phone 641-472-7000, extension 3215. The Career Center is located in the Student Union in the Student Government Suite, third door on the right.

The Center maintains a library of books and workbooks for job seekers, including the latest books on successful job strategy, interviewing, resume-writing, portfolio preparation, networking, Internet skills development, and self-assessment. A similar group of books is available in the Maharishi University of Management Library reserved section. (Each book in this library section may be taken out for seven days).

Workshops Available

Workshops offered by the Career Center include: Internet Strategies for the Job Search; Introduction to Interviewing and Interview Practice; Networking Strategies; and Resume and Cover Letter Preparation. Workshops can be arranged for groups of students, such as a class or department through the Career Center.

Special Events

Special guest speakers will join us at various times of the year to address trends in hiring, latest interview practices, success in careers, etc. Notices will be posted on this site and on the Student Union job board. Email notices will be sent to students and alumni in Fairfield. These events will also be advertised locally through newspapers and posters.

Credit Courses

Three courses are available to students through the Registrar’s Office and to alumni and others through Continuing Education:

Introduction to Vocational Psychology is a one-month full-time course for undergraduates which offers hands-on career development strategies including assessment, career search, resumé writing and interviewing practice. This course also describes the role of the career advisor, and the set-up and functions of a career development center. The course is useful for those exploring their own career choices, as well as those who would like to consider career advising as a possible profession.

Career Psychology is a one-month full-time course for graduate students which delves more deeply into career development theory, and preparation for a profession in career advising in a human resources or educational setting.

Dharma is a two-week Forest Academy course which examines Maharishi’s Vedic perspective on developing the ability to act in a way that is fully supported by Natural Law. In this course, students examine Maharishi’s principles of dharma and effortless action. Guest speakers will describe the role of Maharishi Vedic Technologies, including Maharishi Vedic Astrology in formulating one’s career path. Course participants also explore their own dharma with afternoon workshops, including career assessment for choosing and developing a profession, goal-setting, job interview workshop, Internet resources, networking and resumé writing. Course leaders and guest speakers discuss current hiring trends and maximizing one’s University education as preparation for a career.
