Sports and Recreation
There are many different ways to stay fit at Maharishi University of Management, including • soccer • tennis • volleyball • golf • archery • swimming • basketball • fitness training • aerobics • badminton • running • dance • gymnastics • rock climbing • weight conditioning • windsurfing, and others.
Recreation Center
The Rec Center is a 60,000-square-foot indoor facility, one of the largest indoor university sports facilities in the state of Iowa. Facilities inside include: a track, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, a 28-foot rock climbing wall, weight room, gymnastics center, and ping-pong tables.
Swimming
We also have an outdoor swimming pool, open each June to mid-September, to complement the indoor pool in Fairfield available during the other months of the year. Adjacent to the pool is a sand volleyball court, open year-round.
Soccer
There is also a soccer stadium, the home field of the University soccer team. Our players represent as many as 16 countries, and our team has been three-time undefeated champion of its league.
Adventure
Eager for adventure? The Department of Exercise and Sport Science offers three-day trips (on weekends between courses). These exhilarating, professionally supervised adventures include • alpine skiing • rock climbing in the scenic rock parks of Iowa • kayaking the Wolf River’s white water • cross-country skiing • horseback riding • long canoe trips, or • sail boarding the wide lakes of the Midwest. There is also a special camping trip for first-year students held in early September.
Walking/biking trails
The Jefferson County Trail System features the 17-mile Fairfield Loop Trail, which circles the west and north boundaries of the University campus. The trails are available for walking or bicycling, jogging, and strolling, seven days a week. The loop trail passes a two-lake reservoir just a five-minute walk from campus, where students and the public go for walks, picnics, and other leisurely activities.
Tennis
Ten new outdoor tennis courts on the eastern part of campus complement our four indoor courts in the Rec Center.
Recreation
Recreation courses are a part of undergraduate degree programs, and sport clubs and intramural events provide ongoing opportunities for competition. In warm weather, the University offers water-sport classes in kayaking, canoeing, and windsurfing. In winter months, students can borrow cross-country skis from the recreation center and glide across the paths.
Dance
The Student Union features a hardwood ballroom dance floor. Dance classes are available in ballet, improv, modern, jazz, aerobics, salsa and other Latin dances, and tango and other ballroom dance genres. Many of these classes can be used for academic credit.
