Dr. Rod Eason Receives Award for PhD Research
Dr. Rod Eason was one of the four PhD students who graduated from MUM this July, and also received this year’s Veda Vyasa Prize, given to the PhD student with the most significant research.
Prior to moving to Fairfield, Dr. Eason had a successful 20-year career in the software industry, working in sales and marketing for various high-tech companies in California. As a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation® technique, he wanted to be closer to Maharishi’s knowledge, so in 2004, he enrolled in the MA program in Maharishi Vedic ScienceSM.
“I really enjoyed the knowledge and the experience and I had the desire to stay with it a little bit longer,” Dr. Eason said. “That lead me to entering into the PhD program.” He spent five years in the track focusing on reading the Vedic literature. His work culminated in his dissertation titled “Growth of Consciousness Through a Systematic Program of Reading Vedic Literature in Conjunction with the Vedic Calendar.”
His unique approach was to consider the qualities of natural law described in the Vedic calendar as being most lively on particular days of the week, months, or seasons of the year, then to find corresponding material to read from the Vedic literature that made a connection to those laws of nature.
In addition to pursuing his PhD, Dr. Eason has been teaching courses in Maharishi Vedic Science for the past three years. He is now a full-time member of the MUM faculty and chairs the Department for the Development of Consciousness. “When I started teaching here, I just felt completely at home,” he said. “I really enjoy the students here; I love the University.”
“Dr. Eason has a keen intellect, a great heart, and a deep knowledge of Maharishi Vedic Science,” said Dr. Craig Pearson, executive vice-president. “Alongside his scholarly gifts, he is an outstanding classroom teacher, with the ability to connect with students of all backgrounds. We are fortunate that he decided to make a career change and come here — he is a great addition to our faculty.”
