Baruti KMT — Global Student Council President
Baruti KMT (pronounced Kemet), a Ph.D student in Maharishi Vedic ScienceSM from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, serves as the President of the Global Student Council(GSC), MUM’s student-led governing body.
Baruti earned B.A. degrees in history and sociology from Georgia State University in Atlanta and studied sociology and education at the graduate level. An avid researcher of profound ideas, he founded Radical Scholar, Inc. to help create positive personal and social change. In 2009, he received an M.A. in Maharishi Vedic Science from MUM.
“It wasn’t until I attended a David Lynch Weekend and learned the Transcendental Meditation technique that I had a very different and profound meditative experience,” said Baruti. “Discovering Maharishi Vedic Science not only provided the intellectual understanding of my pre and post TM experiences, but also allowed for continued direct experience with the underlying wholeness of life — the transcendent.” With assistance from the David Lynch Foundation, Baruti also learned the TM-Sidhi® program.
While attending Georgia State University, Baruti served in several student organizations and worked in various on-campus information systems and technology positions, later becoming Director of Information Technology with AID Atlanta, Inc, the premiere non-profit AIDS service organization in the southeastern United States.
In 2008 Baruti was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. International Collegium of Scholars of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. The Collegium inducts members who provide ethical and spiritual leadership and serve as moral and intellectual role models.
This year at MUM, Baruti once again found the chance to serve when a group of students asked him to run for Global Student Council President. Baruti accepted the opportunity to serve the university and its students and was elected president.
“Baruti really sets the tone and the beat of the whole Global Student Council,” said GSC member Andrew Perry, “He is quite a refined gentleman.”
Baruti is excited to work with the Council to assist the University in sharing the benefits of Consciousness-BasedSM education with the world. Upon the completion of his Ph.D., Baruti plans to become a professor of Maharishi Vedic Science and a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation® program.
